Why it ranks here. The most discussed action camera there is: the widest field of view without lens mods, 5.3K at 60 and 400 frames per second, the biggest mount and accessory ecosystem, and now a magnetic mount, GPS, a little more battery and front vents. A cyclist who left for DJI is tempted back by those, and another owner is very happy with it in good sunlight.
It runs hot at high frame rates: one got really hot shooting 240 frames on a hot paddleboarding day and was cooled in the sea, and an older Hero melted on a windshield with its batteries swelled like a whale. Frame rate drives heat more than resolution. It is still the worst of the three flagships at night, owners buy a second camera for that, and some shoppers doubt GoPro will be in business much longer.

As an active cyclist, I bought the DJI Osmo A4 about 6 months ago just b/c of the battery life, magnetic mount, lighter and smaller. Now though, I might consider getting the GP H13, with the magnetic mount being implemented, GPS return, slight increase in battery life, and all of the additional features.

I went to Europe hottest summer this year. My GoPro 9 literally melted in the heat while mounted on the windshield for 2 hours. Two batteries swelled like a whale luckily I had 2 extras. I had to go online to find out whats going on apparently too much heat inside the camera causes overheating which led to the batteries demise. So good for GoPro upgrading the heat vents on the front of the 13.

Still struggling with low light. Buying a diving case to your phone seems like a better option.

I have a GoPro Hero 13 and this is actually the first time I've noticed it getting really hot. Yesterday was pretty hot, and I was using it during a paddleboarding session. I was shooting at: 16:9, 2.7K, 240fps... The funny thing is that as soon as I noticed how hot it was, I submerged it in the ocean for maybe 2 minutes and it cooled down almost instantly.

higher fps is one of the main drivers of heat im pretty sure. Moreso than resolution. like 1080p240 will generate more heat and have less battery life than 5.3k60 for example and 2.7k240 is even worse

That is not actually very hot. I am surprised they throttle at such low temps. My Insta360 gets upwards of 145. It dies around there. The Mission 1 Pro never dies.

There is no perfect action camera for both day and night. I have Gopro 13 since its released. Very happy at what it does in the good sunlight. Then late last month I bought the DJI Action 5 to use for low light. Big mistake. Asides from 4K only, the trumpet lens flares both day and night droved me nuts.

GPH13: Wider FOV without lens mods... Smaller sensor means more things will be in focus. 5.3k resolution video. Action 5 Pro: 4K 120p at 4:3 aspect ratio, Longer battery life, Better low light... At the current moment, I am leaning a bit more towards the DJI, mainly because GoPro, as a company doesn't look like they'll be in business for much longer.
