Why it ranks here. Osaki is the chair everyone has an opinion about, because it is the one Costco, Amazon and Home Depot sell at every price from $1,500 to $10,000. That gives it the most ownership stories of any brand here, the best and the worst. It ranks first on reach, not on reliability.

Why it ranks here. Real Relax is the chair you get when the budget is under $1,000: zero gravity, an app and voice control for $600 on a Walmart sale. It is also the chair with the most reports of arriving broken. It ranks second because so many people buy it, not because it is safe to.

Plenty of buyers are happy, and at $600 to $900 the feature list has no rival. The trouble starts when something goes wrong. Units arrive 'wrapped in a large plastic bag'↗ with a return sticker still on, one died after a month with 'some kind of bad electrical sound'↗, and there is nowhere to buy parts: Real Relax 'don't supply them, nor will direct you to anyone who does'↗. A refund is the only repair. If you buy one, buy it from a shop with easy returns and treat the first month as a test.

• I bought this chair from Amazon, after the first one arrived damaged I got another one and after one month use some kind of bad electrical sound happened and it doesn’t work anymore, got a refund and now I don’t know what brand to try. • I have to give my 2 cents. I bought this chair on Amazon & started a return 7/4/24 & yet still await a refund after 2 weeks. Quite frustrating to say the least! I was highly disappointed in several things. Now, this comes from a perspective of owning a previous Osaki massage chair a few years back, so I may sound petty or too picky to some folks. Anyway... For starters, I'm 5'10" 210 lbs, fairly broad shoulders. I felt compressed and it was too narrow for my arms to naturally get in without jimmying in. First, I want the chair to feel comfortable, even somewhat luxurious just getting in before anything starts. Anything similar to soft, Italian leather comfort. Well, it was not comfortable to me. It has some padding, but my gripe is you feel like your rear is exposed like on a toilet, it has nothing solid or smooth behind it. Some will not like the feeling of the rollers on your butt cheeks due to this. However, the chair once in gives a pretty reasonable massage. The SL rollers provide good force and adjustments can be made. Second gripe, the item claims a Thai stretch. Well, it does not function at all as a stretch mode. Broken? False advertising? I don't know, it simply does not work. Next, the Zero Gravity function is only one step. Others have 2 to 3 steps. This chair only appears to reach an angle of a Comfort Step, which is not near enough to feel flat. Hence, a Deep Step mode appears missing. Again, it may not be important to some, but it was a huge deal for me. I recall the Osaki chair reclining even further back in Deep mode, as if you were slightly suspended backward in a somewhat hanging upside down, medically known as Trendelenburg position. Maybe they are the only ones which angle back this far. I assumed all modern chairs reclined this far, but I was wrong. Very disappointed! Those are my gripes and I feel the chair falls short of my expectations. I will be buying another chair. I'm in consideration of the EASPearl now, as I hear it accommodates a wider range of persons in various sizes. If you are a broad fellow, taller than myself, or if any of these issues sound important to you, I recommend something else.

• I just ordered a real telex message chair last week. It came wrapped in a large plastic bag. Still has a return sticker on it. Not in original box. Broken controller stand and did not come with a power cable. Scrapes all over the leather. Clearly it is a used/returned product. I used my own power cable to test it out, the back would not go up, it is stuck on the zero gravity position. I would never purchase another real relex product again.

• Sister bought this against my advice. 1. A chair cannot massage you. It can only shake and vibrate a persons body. 2. The bix we recieved it in was damaged, which normally means someonenelse returned it. 3. After 1 day of use the chair stopped working and would not power on despite unassembling and reconnecting all wires. 4. Now im responsible for returning the chair and i havent yet checked if theres a restocking fee. 5. The chair is heavy and impractical to move. When you press against the front, the legs collapse backwards and the chair remains stationary. When you press against the back it folds forward without moving. You cannot lift the chair either. Please save yourself the time, money, and space, by seeking proffesional massage from a trained practicioner.

• There are so many buttons on the controller that are inscrutable and are not addressed in the manual. For example, there is a button named "Width". Width of what and why do I see no indication of change on the control panel. A source of detailed information on how to work these buttons and what they do would be very helpful , even essential as some of the things done by the chair are painful. Is that because I'm sore, I'm skinny,etc., and is there a way to reduce the intensity. I can't tell. I suspect the information is available there, but where?

• This is a completely unbiased review of an item you were paid to review. It is like saying that the people who pay the sports announcers to advertise an upcoming show will say anything bad about it. The chair looks good, and I'm sure it feels fine. I can't take a "professional opinion" from someone who got paid to say what they said. Also, you said you would see if it stood up to your professional standards, and you did not, so I'm assuming it doesn't hold up.

Why it ranks here. Human Touch is the name Reddit gives when someone asks for something better than the Costco brands. People hunt for its refurbished and floor-model chairs on purpose, because they last and a local dealer will service them. The price is the argument against it.

The build is a class above. A refurbished one from a local dealer for $1,800 has 'been solid for 3 years now'↗, and its owner calls it 'Way better build quality than the Amazon stuff'↗. A floor model bought 'for $2000 20 years ago'↗ is still working. Costco buyers whose chairs had early problems got them replaced under warranty without a fight. Then there is the top of the range. A $16,000 Super Novo X lost its remote and side panel at six months, and its owner 'cannot get customer service to respond'↗. Three years of warranty on a chair at that price is what one commenter calls overpriced, and it is hard to disagree. Buy refurbished or through Costco, not at list.

• A lot of these brands allow you to pay for some or all of your purchase with FSA or HSA funds if you have them! Human Touch offers FSA payments through their website, as well as financing options. It's an investment but it'll change the way you sleep & carry yourself through your day so... a pretty good investment.

• Thanks for the video. One part that messed me up was near the beginning of the video and near the end. When putting the left side panel , there is the heating plug that you don't mention until you plug it in to the seat cushion for heat. I had to take the side panel off to find the wire that was NOT secured . A small piece of tape on it would hold it in place and save lots of time.OR point it out in the beginning when you are putting the left side panel on. The chair works great , will take a little time to get to know what all it can do.

• Thanks for the video. Just got and assembled the chair today. Took about 30 minutes. I will say this the large arm rests also had a 90 degree male fitting just like coming out of the chair. So I had to remove one of the male fittings out of the hoses to connect it. Not sure why it was like this, the rest of the air fittings were not.

Why it ranks here. The iJoy is the chair Reddit brings up whenever someone is about to spend $5,000. It cost $400 new, it has not been made for years, and owners from 1999 and 2005 are still sitting in theirs. It is last only because you have to find one second-hand.

No chair in this research has more owners past fifteen years. One bought in 1999 is 'still working like the day I got it'↗, another from 2005 'works perfectly'↗, and several say it gives 'a way better massage than the ones you sit & pay at the mall'↗. What wears out is the covering: 'the fake pleather has almost peeled off'↗ on one, and another 'looks awful'↗ but runs. Motors do go eventually, after fifteen or twenty years, and one owner's failed within a year, so 'you got lucky'↗ is a fair warning. Working units sell for about $100 on Facebook Marketplace, and one owner counted 'a dozen on there right now'↗.

• Definitely not BIFL, you got lucky. I had a similar model and it failed within a year with minimal use. I was able to get a warranty replacement discount on a newer model because the broken roller part was not available but definitely not something I expect to last a decade.
