Why it ranks here. Mentioned reflexively as the only answer in nearly every rice cooker thread, with an enormous number of owners reporting ten, fifteen and twenty-five years of daily use without failure and the strongest buy-it-for-life reputation of any brand here. Fuzzy-logic sensors adjust for water and rice type, so the rice is perfectly textured with almost no user error, and the only common wear item is a cheap clock battery.
It is the most expensive option here and the slowest, 45 minutes to an hour for a standard batch with no real quick mode. Buy the Made in Japan line for its harder nonstick coating, and never wash rice inside the bowl. Even the premium induction and pressure models have reports of the coating flaking within a few years.

Get yourself a Zojirushi. It's an expensive upfront cost but makes perfect rice each time and will last you for years. Anecdotally I've had mine for over 6 years and it still works like new; I know others have had theirs for a decade or more!

Echoing the other Zojirushi recs. I love in LA; my 10 year old machine had a battery die (only impact was the delayed start function). Dropped it off to them, and $16 and one day later they had it all fixed up. Good for at least another 10 years, said the service guy.

I have a Zojirushi rice cooker, it has been used for 20 years and still works as good as a brand new one.

As someone who has owned a Zojirushi for 5 years and made probably 150 batches of rice in it (different model), I have had zero problems and the pot has shown zero signs of degradation since I've owned it, and can confirm it is great. Edit: I have the NS-TSC10 model.

The $30 one at the Asian market by the 25# bags of rice. Your 1st kid will take it to college. I've got a Zojirushi, an hour 5 is a long time for rice, it's not really any better than the 2-1/15-10 stovetop method.

I had flaking bowls in both of my top of the line platinum infused zojirushi induction pressure cookers. The ones made earlier ( 5-10 years ago) are super fragile so the best is not to wash rice in them at all. The replacement bowl seems more durable so maybe the technology improved.
