• This cam use a 3M adhesive mount with an electrostatic sticker so it stays firmly in place. I’ve got one myself and usually park in the garage. If you want to extend its lifespan, parking in a cooler spot is always a good idea. Heat can really damage anything.

• N4 pro has the newer starvis 2 sensor which is somewhat better. N4’s records front 1440p, interior 1440p and rear 1080 when in 3 channel mode so if you want 4K recording in the front, you need to disable the interior camera. N4 pro records at 4K, 1080p and 1080p respectively.

• I made the exact same mistake and found it worth it to upgrade to the Pro so I don't have to pull the SD card to download video. Just as an aside, the wiring for the N4 is the exact same as the Pro. I merely swapped the cameras and returned the N4 - no need to uninstall and reinstall everything.

• Very helpful, detailed review. I have run two Vantrue single channel models for several years. Still running, although I do no leave them when parked outside due to our extreme heat. I have a mirror mount but I'm curious if this model is not easy to remove for storage? Vantrue is one of those brands that offers solid build quality although seem to be not as well known due to less hype compared to some. Thanks!

• Great video has always n review....im def going 2 try this cam now. I personally had bad experiences with my Viofo a139. Both interior and rear cameras went out after 9mnths then now 1.5yrs lator I have a completely dead A139 main unit. For the price they didnt last anywhere what I thought. Hope this unit is alot better.....Viofo a139 😞👎

Why it ranks here. When money is not the concern, r/dashcams answers Viofo A229 Pro. Its IMX678 sensor reads plates that other 4K cameras turn into smudges, and it glues to the glass instead of sucking onto it. It ranks second only because getting footage out of it is a chore.

• Viofo A229 Pro 2-channel is all you really need. Anything else is overkill. If you have a good 12V just hardware it with the $15 kit. Otherwise you could get a dashcam battery, but that increases prices and installation by quite a bit.

Why it ranks here. The REDTIGER is what most people on a budget buy, and it is the most watched dash cam on YouTube by a distance. For $100 to $120 it has a 4K front camera, a rear camera, GPS, an app and parking mode. It ranks third because a real share of them misbehave.

When it works it earns its keep. 'This actually got me out of a speeding ticket'↗, says one owner, 'Was dismissed immediately'↗; another's 'caught everything'↗ when someone hit his girlfriend's car. Then the other reviews. One unit started 'loading up a black screen'↗, its replacement 'freezes up after 15-30 seconds'↗; a new one's resolution 'always defaults back to 4K'↗ after every restart; one drops into parking mode while driving. The bundled card is 'too slow for 4k'↗, so buy a U3 card or you get gaps in the loop. And moving clips over Wi-Fi 'takes extremely long'↗, so owners pull the card. Buy it if $110 is the budget, test it hard in the return window.

• Love my F7NP; have had in my truck for over a year. Great quality front & rear videos. However; I don’t have it set for “parked” monitoring mode; not too many auto break ins where we are - also don’t trust the possible battery drain on the truck. The one draw back on this model is that it takes extremely long to move event videos from the camera to your phone via WiFi. I gave up on using that function; just use the SD card in my computer when I want to share videos.

• I got this dashcam last month and I've noticed that while driving the indicator on the odb2 box goes from ACC to showing a voltage (~12.3) and the camera will go into parking mode despite actively driving. I have a 2021 civic if that matters any. It will eventually go back to ACC but during this time the dashcam will turn on and off and record in locked mode since it's detecting movement which isn't ideal.

• I bought one a few years ago and it was great, till it started loading up a black screen but would still record. Whatever, I just bought a new one. That was maybe 3 months ago. This one was fine but now it freezes up after 15-30 seconds for about 30 seconds and then restarts the recording. I have it on a 5 minute loop.

• I got this camera for myself and my family and they have already proved their worth. Someone hit my GF's car and the camera caught everything. One important thing is that if you are planning on using the SD card that comes with it make sure to decrease the recording resolution in settings. If you dont there will be gaps in the loop recording footage because the default card is too slow for 4k. Get a faster U3 SD card to avoid gaps in recordings.

Why it ranks here. The 622GW is the dash cam on the shelf at Best Buy and Halfords, with 4K, Alexa and crash detection that calls for help. It has years of owner reports, and they are the worst in this ranking. It stays in because it is what many people will see first, and they should know.

The picture is good and the crash features have helped with insurance claims. The problem is the rest. Units freeze: one 'freezes up after 5-25 seconds after every start-up'↗, another 'Died completely within about 5 months'↗, and an owner of three top-of-the-range Nextbases says 'all three froze and became unresponsive'↗. The internal battery cannot be replaced and fades: at under three years one 'lasts a minute or so without external power'↗. The mount falls off in heat, the app connects '9/10 times doesn't work'↗ for one owner, and a professionally installed unit keeps 'resetting the date to 2010'↗. Owners who liked the video still say they would not buy Nextbase again.

• At best this lasts maybe 2 months, meanwhile the original mount stayed on in NH for closer to 2 years without issue. Even crazier is that my husband's cam, mounted to the exact same year, make and model of car in the same location from when I first installed it is completely fine and hasn't fallen off and I installed both the same way.

• Mine is not even 3 years old, the battery lasts a minute or so without external power, it's been hardwired to the car since day one. The Bluetooth is no longer working. I also found it too sensitive when detecting impacts even on the lowest sensitivity.

• I have the 522 and back cam and Nextbase is Junk, failed to record major events, drops recording without any reason... of course you only find out that it wasn't recording constantly when you need images and find out it recorded except the days you needed. Connecting with the app... 9/10 times doesn't work. Had somebody hitting me... No recorded images.... Absolutely unreliable for a dash cam

Why it ranks here. Garmin's 67W is the dash cam for people who do not want a project. No app needed, a 180-degree view, and a brand truckers trust. It ranks fifth because the wide lens shrinks plates and because it costs more than the cameras above it that see better.

It just records. Owners pick it over the cheaper Mini because 'the 67W doesn't'↗ force you into the app, and a truck driver 'after 5 years of ownership'↗ says 'it more than made it's money worth'↗. One owner who had four dash cams overheat says the Garmin 'has NEVER overheated'↗. The 180-degree lens is the thing to think about: that same owner will 'NEVER buy again'↗ a 180-degree camera, because 'All it does is get video of your dashboard and side panels'↗ while everything ahead shrinks. The Garmin Drive app is 'wonky'↗, so owners pull the card. And a few units 'Died completely after 2 years'↗. Simple and dependable, at a price that buys sharper cameras.

• Thanks for a informative video. I was considering Mini 2 or 67W and have landed on the latter. The mini forces you to use the app for checking its viewing angel etc, the 67W doesn't. I also want the higher resolution and frame rate. But most importantly is that were I live the Mini 2 costs roughly 130 dollars while the 67W costs 180 dollars. I get a much better camera overall for 50 bucks up.

• I recently started using a Garmin Dash Cam 47. So far, I really like it. But I definitely agree on what was said about the Garmin Drive app. Its very.....wonky (?) and getting it to connect is super difficult. Like was said in the video, I just pull the sd card if I want to get any footage saved to my computer. I really wish they would improve the app because I really like my Garmin dash cam.

• I am also a sucker for Garmin products here (N. AMerica) but also when I was in EU. I'm a truck driver so while I do understand your view point mine is a bid different. For me my dashcam was with all the options that it has (audio, timelapse while trucking is great, and even the app to show a police office that he was wrong) I do have to agree that the bloody app be it for the dashcam or for my truck gps sucks BIG TIME and slow AF... after 5 years of ownership it more than made it's money worth.

• Hi Julian, Thanks for your advice, I bought the Garmin 67W in the meantime. I also bought the parking mode attachment, as suggested by you. Without, it not would really be incomplete and the battery connection and parking alerts are important. I had the unit installed by an auto electrician. It worked well, however, it was installed in my Santa Fe too close to the 'blacked out area behind the center mirror/ many black dots on the windscreen". The videos/pictures had a part of the side screen not visible, due to its placement. This was rectified and now it is working well and showing a full screen view.

• I've owned four different dashcams over the years. EVERY one of them would overheat and stop working. I finally got the 66W two years ago, and it has NEVER overheated or had any problems with it. One thing I will NEVER buy again, is any dashcam with a 180 degree lense. (66W has it) All it does is get video of your dashboard and side panels. It has the usual fish-eye distortion and makes everything in front of you so small, you can barely see the license plates.
