Why it ranks here. Braun comes up more than any other brand when people ask which immersion blender to buy, and the answer is always the same story: someone's unit from 1985 still runs, another's is thirty years old, a third's lasted 23 years. It wins the head-to-head threads against KitchenAid, Cuisinart and even Vitamix, and it turns a pot of chunky soup smooth in about a minute. A ten-year owner has made purées, soups, whipped cream and cold-process soap with it through eight house moves.
The safety trigger takes real finger force to hold through a whole recipe, which put off one daily user entirely. The bundled attachments matter less than the box suggests; an MQ9 owner uses only the wand and the small chopper and would buy the cheapest model that includes that chopper. One unit struggles with frozen fruit, and one failed with melted rubber a repair cafe could not fix.

I had a Braun for about 15 years (made in Germany) and was broken hearted when it died. I got another (different brand) and it lasted a year before the motor started sounding strange and little parts started cracking. Thanks for this review!! Other online reviews are very, very favorable. I use my Vitamix for big jobs etc., but love an immersion for smaller quick preparations. Thank you!

I was about to buy that mixer until I saw the annoying safety feature of having to press a button before we have to use it. Even you, in your 3 minutes promotion video, struggled with it every time. Imagine a whole recipe. I use this kind of mixer every day. No way I would buy this one. Too bad, because everything else seem great. Braun usually make great quality products.

I've had the Braun for 20 years. The kitchenaid feels heavier and the button is harder to press.

I've only used a couple immersion blenders, but I own the Braun and it's powerful. It will turn a chunky soup into a velvety smooth one in about a minute, which is exactly what I want in an immersion blender.

I don't know anything about the KitchenAid one, but I've had the Braun for 10 years, I've not been gentle with it (I've made everything from purées, smoothies, soups, whipped cream, dips and cold process soap with it) it's moved house with me eight times, and it's still going strong.

The rubber started smoking when I used it. The internal part of the blender (idk the specific term) that was lined with rubber melted. I tried taking it to a repair cafe near me but even the folks there couldn’t help me repair it

So far, so good. We got the MQ9137 model, but after close to a year of regular use, I'd say that the attachments that are useful to me are the main blender attachment, and the 500 mL chopper (most frequently used for chopping the bulk peeled garlic we buy from Costco and freeze, but also useful for plenty of other things). If I were rebuying, I'd buy the cheapest model that comes with the 500ml chopper. Every other attachment has been a "Huh, I guess I might use that sometime".

Get another Braun I bought an MQ505 5 or 6 years ago and it works great. Breville is also great, but they charge a premium for name.
