Best weighted blankets

I just got one of these in the 12 pound size. Found out about the weighted blanket through a family member who got one as a holiday gift from YnM. Tried it out and got this one as reviews were positive and not many make middle of the road sizes. I have no regrets! Best $60 I've spent on Amazon! Side note: Even happier that I supported a small operation husband and wife team! 5+ stars for them as of so far!— YouTube comment · residentone475 · 2019-10-10 · on the #1 pick, YnM Original Cotton

Why it ranks here. YnM is the weighted blanket most people own, because it is the one Amazon shows first and it comes in more weights, sizes and colours than any rival. It ranks first for being the safe, cheap starting point, not for being the best blanket here.

It is the gateway blanket. One buyer heard of weighted blankets from a family member who got a YnM as a gift, bought a 12-pounder because 'not many make middle of the road sizes', and calls it the 'Best $60 I've spent on Amazon!'. The small pockets keep the beads spread evenly, so the weight feels like a hug rather than lumps. It runs warm, which makes it 'better suited for cold sleepers', and there are 'slight pulls on the fabric' over time. Not everyone takes to the sensation: one buyer 'Couldn't get used to it at all' and sent it back. Buy the bamboo cover if you sleep hot.

What owners like

  • The widest choice of weights, sizes and colours, so a partner's weight or 'middle of the road sizes' are easy to find
  • Small pockets keep the beads spread evenly for a steady hug
  • The 'Best $60 I've spent on Amazon!', in the words of one convert

What owners complain about

  • Runs warm under a duvet, so it is 'better suited for cold sleepers'
  • 'slight pulls on the fabric' show up with use
  • Some people never adjust to the weight: one 'Couldn't get used to it at all' and returned it

  • There are slight pulls on the fabric and it can feel slightly chilly to the touch... The blanket can be warm to layer with a duvet, making it better suited for cold sleepers or those living in cold regions

Runs cool, the coolest here

Why it ranks here. Bearaby draws the most passionate praise of any brand in this research, from people who were not asked. Its trick is having no beads: the weight is the thick knitted cotton itself, so it sleeps cool and makes no noise. It costs $200 to $300, which is the only thing holding it off the top spot.

One owner would wear a shirt that says 'ask me about my weighted blanket', calls hers 'life changing', 'COOLING (like magic)', and 'Easily in the top 3 products I've ever owned'. Another uses the Tencel version 'year round in Colorado', with a sheet in summer and layered in winter. It is quiet, it goes in the washing machine, and it looks good on a bed. Two warnings. The knit is open, so toes poke through and bare skin meets the weave, which one shopper finds 'freaking me out'. And the return window is thirty days to the day: one buyer who found it too hot a day late was refused. Then there is the price, which one commenter puts as 'THREE HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS'.

What owners like

  • No beads. The knit is the weight, so it is 'COOLING (like magic)' and silent
  • Used 'year round in Colorado', a sheet in summer and layers in winter
  • Machine washable and handsome enough to leave on the bed; 'Easily in the top 3 products I've ever owned'

What owners complain about

  • $200 to $300, several times the price of a bead blanket
  • A thirty-day return window enforced to the day, which caught one buyer who found it 'SOOO hot'
  • The open knit means toes poke through and skin touches the weave, which not everyone likes

This is my time to shine. I should have a shirt that says “ask me about my weighted blanket” because of how life changing mine has been. The brand is Bearaby - they’re expensive ($200) - but for me it’s the difference between pulling it up to my neck and LIGHTS OUT, or tossing and turning until the sun is coming up. I have the 25 pounder in “driftwood” and everything about it is perfect. It’s also beautiful and makes the bed look so nice and put together. It’s made of thick, woven (strands?) of 100% dense cotton, so it’s soft, breathable, COOLING (like magic) and easy to clean. Easily in the top 3 products I’ve ever owned.— Reddit comment · u/sheyoyo · r/sleep · 2025-11-21

  • I was so excited about this purchase. I got it over the holidays and by the time I had the chance to use it and figured out that your body does not adjust to the heat, they would not take it back. They say no hassle returns in 30 days but if you pass that by 1 day, they won't even consider helping you out... The blanket makes you SOOO hot and even with the ties inside the sheets, it does not stay put. Do not waste your money on this.

  • Great review! After weeks of mulling over splurging for the Tree Napper, I went for it in August 2020. I too got the fifteen pound one (I am a woman and thought the 20 pound would be too heavy). I am so pleased with this blanket. I definitely sleep more deeply. My husband says I am much less active while sleeping. The blanket feels like a gentle hug.

  • So I have the cotton bearaby in a 20 lbs. I'm 205lbs. Does not seem that heavy. Tried folding it ontop of itself but still doesn't feel right. I do like it unfolded as it does feel to hug u. I put a luna bamboo duvet cover on this bc I didn't like the open knit feel and wash issue of a heavy blanket.

Runs warm; the Breeze version is cooler

Why it ranks here. Gravity is the brand that made weighted blankets a thing, and its owners are the ones with the longest histories, some nightly since 2019. It has a removable duvet-style cover and a cooling Breeze version. It ranks third on price, and on the beads.

The long-term reports are the point. One has used the original 'every night' since 2019 'and love it', another has had the 15-pound Breeze since 2022 and says 'it's held up very well'. The removable cover makes washing easy. The beads are the catch. Unless you shake the blanket out 'so the beads dont pool at one end', they do, and an owner who stopped bothering says that 'now 3 years later its terrible'. The Purple version is 35 pounds across a 90-inch square, which feels lighter than it sounds but is a lot of blanket for a small person. And at $200 to $300 the question of whether it is worth it never goes away.

What owners like

  • Owners since 2019 still use it 'every night', and a 2022 Breeze has 'held up very well'
  • A removable duvet-style cover, so washing is easy
  • The 35-pound Purple version spreads over a 90-inch square and feels far lighter than the number

What owners complain about

  • Beads pool at one end unless you shake it out; one owner who stopped says 'now 3 years later its terrible'
  • $200 to $300
  • The Purple version is a lot of blanket for a smaller person, and one new owner's first reaction was 'I cant breathe!!'

  • I feel that the weight divided by 10 rule mostly applies to traditional sized weighted blankets made for a single person. This blanket is 35lbs spread across a 90”x90” surface. Which will actually feel more like, according to the purple website, 10-17lbs of weight depending on the individual’s size. Not nearly as heavy feeling as say a 35lbs blanket at 48”x72” or 60”x80”.

  • I swear by my gravid breeze cooling blanket. My wife hates it lol. So we end up using our own blankets on our halves of the bed. I think it helps tremendously and I went with the lighter option (i weigh 185 but went with a 15lb blanket)

Moderate

Why it ranks here. Luna is the other name Amazon shows next to YnM, with thousands of five-star reviews and a bamboo option at about $100 for a queen. It ranks fourth because its larger pockets let the beads slide, and because the owner reports are thinner than for the brands above.

It has the range, five to 25 pounds in many colours, and reviewers find it cooler than most bead blankets. The pockets are the flaw. They are larger squares, so the beads slide 'to one end of each square', which a new owner with OCD says 'really bothers me' after seven nights, and a shopper who liked everything else decided it 'would probably drive me crazy instead of calming me'. There is also no heavy-but-narrow size for a single sleeper who wants weight without overhang. A fine mid-price choice if bead drift does not bother you.

What owners like

  • Five to 25 pounds in many colours, about $90 to $110 for a queen or king
  • Cooler than most bead blankets, by reviewers' accounts
  • One of the two most-reviewed weighted blankets on Amazon

What owners complain about

  • Larger pockets let the beads slide 'to one end of each square', which 'really bothers' texture-sensitive sleepers
  • No heavy-but-narrow sizes for a single sleeper

  • Im so confused about weighted blankets and I actually just got the Luna 17lb and I've used it for 7 nights. • Love the options this has for sizes and colors, but the cons kind of make this one I don't think would work for me, the larger squares causing the weight distribution not to be that great would probably drive me crazy instead of calming me.

  • third one I got a few weeks ago from Silk & Snow. it's 25lbs and took a bit of getting used to with the weight. I got it because it said 100% cotton, didn't say anything about filler the way that the Nuzzie one did... and it was cheaper than bearably and in a color I liked.

Why it ranks here. Quility is the budget name among the best sellers: a cotton cover, glass beads in seven layers, and a throw for about $40 or a queen for $110. It ranks last because almost nobody writes about it in detail. The reviews are positive and shallow.

What there is to say is short. It is cheap, it is cotton, it goes in the washing machine, and buyers report better sleep for the money. Like every cotton bead blanket it runs warm, so if you 'heat up easily at night, then this may not be the blanket for you'. The missing piece is time: there are few owners online two or three years in, so how the beads and the cover hold up is unknown. A reasonable first blanket, bought with easy returns.

What owners like

  • The cheapest of the best sellers: about $40 for a throw, $110 for a queen or king
  • Cotton cover, seven-layer bead construction, and machine washable

What owners complain about

  • Runs warm: if you 'heat up easily at night, then this may not be the blanket for you'
  • Few long-term owner accounts, so durability is a guess

This is described as a solid weighted blanket that offers great value for the price. Customer reviews appear to be generally positive, with reviewers noting improved sleep quality. Frequently asked questions

What weight should I buy?

About ten percent of your body weight is the usual rule, so a 150-pound person takes a 15-pound blanket. Experienced owners lean lighter, seven to ten percent, since a blanket that is too heavy feels like a restraint rather than a hug.

Will it make me hot?

Bead blankets in cotton do, and it is the most repeated complaint for every brand here. If you sleep warm, pick a bamboo or Tencel cover, a knitted blanket like Bearaby with no beads, or a lighter weight.

Do the beads shift?

Yes, over years. Owners two or three years in say the glass beads drift to one end of each pocket unless the blanket is shaken out now and then, and one found them ground to sand after a year of nightly use.

Do they help with sleep?

Many owners fall asleep faster and toss less, and credit the steady pressure. It is not universal: some feel nothing, and one woke up groggy under the weight.
